Scamper Takes a Ride
Sometimes an Interruption to Your Spiritual Practice IS Your Spiritual Practice
My husband and I feed feral cats.
We have attempted from time to time to rescue, neuter, rehome, and care for them, and we have successfully rehomed four baby kittens over the years. (They are hard to catch!)
One of our favorite females has eluded capture in our attempts to take motherhood away from her. And she recently had kittens.
Unfortunately, the kittens often hide in inconvenient spots. One of their favorite spots up until a few days ago was somewhere near the motor of our cars.
Each day when we would need to use our cars, we would beat on the hood, blow the horn, or otherwise attempt to scare the kittens out from wherever their hiding spot was.
A couple of weeks ago, I needed to leave for my monthly spiritual gathering that I host at a nearby hotel. My husband noted a couple of kittens near the car, but after our normal routine of noisemaking, I decided to go ahead and venture out to my destination.
All was well. Or so I thought.
Soon after the gathering began, one of the attendees noticed a kitten by the entrance door and remarked about its presence. I immediately recognized it as the one we called Scamper, who liked to scamper here and there recklessly, venturing out away from the other kittens, often to the dismay of its protective mom.
Apparently it had hitchhiked somewhere under my car and arrived at the hotel, unharmed.
I decided to take my group outside, and, rather than our normal time of meditation, try to corral the kitten to safety.
I used the presence of the kitten to teach my group how to expand their energy field in order to push the kitten in the direction we wanted him to go. Although we were able to energetically move him in a particular direction, he managed to find a hole in our combined energy field and escape.
Unsure of what to do next, we went back inside and released his fate to Source. Continuing on with the normal meditation and order of our gathering, we assumed that he had scampered off into the nearby woods.
Near the end of the gathering, I decided to have my group once again attempt to push him energetically back towards my car, hoping, if the doors were open, he would jump inside.
To our combined delight, he appeared, out of the woods, and bounced past many other cars back to what he considered his safe space under my car.
It was not the ideal situation! I worried he would fall out of wherever he was hiding, and meet an unfortunate fate. For a kitten away from his mom and the colony he lived with, dangers abound. Whether he was under my car or alone in a small gathering of trees next to a busy highway, his fate was precarious.
Together we called upon the Benevolent Spirit Helpers to keep him free from harm at least until I arrived back home.
Upon my arrival, I immediately jumped out of the car and looked beneath the car, hoping he would realize he was home and show himself, so I could breathe more easily. I knew I had done everything possible to secure his safety, with the help of the Benevolent Helpers.
There he was! The picture above was taken immediately after my arrival home. He seemed to be saying, “What are you so worried about? I am fine.”
Sometimes it is important to adjust our intentions and plans, and be open to being of service to someone, be it human, animal, or otherwise, even if it seems to interfere with our spiritual practice.
Before Scamper peered into the entrance door to the hotel gathering room, those in attendance at the monthly gathering were prepared to meditate and ask Spirit for guidance or healing or perhaps a message. No one expected that a message from Source would take the form of a kitten in need. None of us hesitated to set aside our agenda to assist this little furry bundle of cuteness.
In the process, I was able to teach my group a valuable skill, which I have had to use from time to time.
What did Spirit want to communicate to us through Scamper?
Be open to unexpected changes of plans in order to help someone in need.
Sometimes, an interruption to your spiritual practice IS your spiritual practice.
Miracles abound! Don’t be afraid to ask the Benevolent Helpers for assistance, even when it seems hopeless.
All life is valuable. Don’t ever discount the importance of being of service to the smallest of creatures, whose fate is undetermined, despite any efforts on your part.
Also be aware that sometimes your attempts to be of service are met with failure, or the intended assistance does not turn out in the way you had hoped.
It is important to release any attachment to your desired outcome, even though you are doing everything in your power to assist.
At one time in our attempts to corral the kitten, he scurried off into the trees and we had to surrender him to his fate. Later, we were successfully able to secure him to safety, but at one point, we did not know if he would run out into traffic or in front of an unsuspecting driver.
Even when you are inspired to take some sort of action to be of assistance, you do not know if your attempts will shift the course of events that seem to be inevitable.
Lessons my group and I learned from Scamper the kitten:
Be willing to be interrupted from your normal activities in order to be of assistance to someone in need, human or otherwise.
Sometimes a change of course, be it temporary, or permanent, is Divinely orchestrated, in order to teach a lesson, intervene for someone in need, or shake up your intended direction.
Miracles can and do occur. They happen all the time, but sometimes we are a participant, an observer, or perhaps even unaware of them as they are occurring.
Shifting energy works. Yes, you can move things (and kittens) with your mind and your intention. (I have also done this with birds who got in my attic.)
Surrender is an important aspect to our spiritual walk. We set intentions, have desires, and take inspired actions, but it is important to release our desire to Source energy for the outcome.
I would like to say that Scamper is now happily rehomed in a loving family. However, after the car ride, he scampered home to his colony with his mom, who was waiting for him in the driveway, and I never saw him again. At first I was distraught, beating myself up for not setting up the protection shield for after our car ride home.
Sometimes you have to do what you know to do and leave the rest to nature, or fate, or the Universe. I hope Scamper knows that he participated in a miracle, and a lesson for those of us who needed our spiritual gathering interrupted.
Be well, Scamper.
I appreciate you! Here is where you let me know you are reading and are interested in my musings from Woo Woo World.
Yes, I feel so thankful, Joy, to have been part of this amazing spiritual experience! And, most of all, this message where you continue to enrich our lives with your spirit and kindness.
I love this message and your indomitable efforts to help all creatures. I am grateful for you.
