A couple of years ago I was Christmas shopping at Belk here in my hometown and I happened upon the most beautiful purse I had ever seen. After drooling for several minutes, I decided to peer at the price tag. YIKES! I could never in a million years see myself purchasing a purse for that much money! But I really loved the purse.
So I hatched a plan. If I ask every family member for a Belk gift card for Christmas, perhaps I will score enough gift cards to put a dent in the price tag.
It didn’t happen.
A few months later, I found a knock-off for a fraction of the price. Not as amazing, but nice. Whenever I would go to Belk, I would go over and drool at the purse or one made by the same brand, but never considered buying one.
This year for my birthday, two years or so after spying it for the first time, my daughter and my husband joined forces and bought me the purse! The real one!
This is a perfect example of manifestation with a little surrender thrown in for good measure.
Admittedly, I never did any manifestation rituals towards obtaining the purse. But my desires were noticed by the Universe and my daughter, despite my limited thinking. I surrendered my desire to the Universe, and one day, the purse showed up!
As a psychic, many people make appointments with me wondering when this or that will show up in their life. Being an advocate for self-empowerment, I don’t believe we are always victims to fated events, although, of course, some things happen that are completely out of our control. I believe that there are things we can do to manifest our desires, as long as those desires are in alignment with our soul purpose and do not injure others.
I have been doing rituals of various sorts for at least thirty years.
When I was in need of money, I did a ritual where I danced around my wallet three times proclaiming money was manifesting into my experience.
When I discerned the spirit of unrest on a church property, I did a ritual to free the spirit of division and bloodshed from the land, so that the church could be free from the discord it had suffered throughout its time on the property.
Rituals of various sorts have been an integral part of my spiritual toolbox for decades.
What I have learned, however, over the years, is that there is a very fine line between manifesting a desire and detaching from a desired outcome.
It seems like a contradiction to do a manifestation ritual and then surrender the desire for a particular outcome, doesn’t it?
In the aforementioned story, I did not actually do a manifestation ritual for the purse, but I did have a desire and attempt to manifest that desire through the suggestions of gift cards from my family members, but in the end, I surrendered the outcome. When the gift cards did not manifest, I released my intended outcome to the Universe, even if unconsciously.
This also illustrates one of the mistakes people make when they are attempting to manifest a specific desire.
My mistake was that I tried to tell the Universe HOW to give me the purse. I could easily visualize receiving a variety of gift cards for smaller amounts than the entire purchase price of the purse, but I could not imagine just going to the store and purchasing the purse. I could not imagine a scenario where I obtained the purse in another way, and I could not justify spending that much money on a purse! Even if someone would have given me the exact purchase price of the purse, I probably would have used the money for something “more practical.”
Most of the time, our desires are within our reach, but we sabotage ourselves in one way or another.
I think one of the biggest mistakes we make when we have a desire and we attempt to manifest our desires, is how much effort we put into the rituals and visualizations we do in order to manifest what we want. It should not be hard! And the second biggest mistake we make is trying to figure out how the thing we want will show up for us.
We create vision boards. We gather ingredients for a variety of rituals. We spend time visualizing our desires, making sure we are putting the emotions of joy into the visualizations, as suggested in all of the self-help books. In some of the rituals I suggest to my clients, they do the rituals three days in a row on a specific day of the week or during a specific moon phase. All of this is good, and I do engage in manifestation rituals!
However, one of the key ingredients we often forget is surrender. We forget to surrender the outcome to the Universe for the highest good and in the perfect timing! We forget to allow the Universe to bring us our desire however the Universe is able to work it out. Or not.
If we plant tulip bulbs in the fall, we do not go outside in December, and then January, and then February, digging up the bulbs to see if they are growing. We do not worry about whether the Universe is going to make the bulbs bloom. We do not fret about whether maybe the tulips are not meant for us or maybe we just are not good enough or smart enough or evolved enough to deserve tulips. We planted the tulips. We followed the directions for the proper soil and the proper location and the proper spacing so that the tulips would have everything they would need to do their job and eventually bloom. And then we probably forgot about them!
I probably should not mention, but I will, that one year I bought and planted a hundred tulip bulbs and not one of them survived the winter. Spring came and I had not even one tulip. Surrender the outcome. Some things you have absolutely no control over.
I think the surrender part is the most important part! After you have a desire and do whatever steps you decide to take to manifest something, then forget about it! Completely surrender the outcome. You may get what you want. You may not.
Sometimes I believe we kill our desires from too much attention.
I love houseplants. I have a multitude of houseplants in my home, and I have hardly ever forgotten to water them or put them in locations in the home where they can get enough sunlight.
However, I have killed a few with too much attention.
One time I was given a plant with the instruction to forget about it. The person who gave it to me said that she had not watered it in three months and it was perfectly healthy. Within a few weeks of being in my possession, the plant died from too much attention.
I propose that this is sometimes true of our manifestation rituals. We put too much attention into wondering if the ritual worked, or if our visualizations or our meditations or our rituals are doing their job.
Sometimes the best thing we can do is nothing.
Obviously, we do need to have a desire in order for it to manifest. But after we desire it, and we do some sort of ritual to make it happen, or perhaps say a prayer, or whatever you do when you want something that you cannot make happen yourself, then it is important to release it to the Universe and try to forget about it!
Some things will manifest so quickly after you do a ritual that you don’t have time for the surrender part. I have had desires manifest in 24 hours, and I have had clients who have received the things they wanted very quickly as well. These are things that were definitely meant for you. You were already in a vibrational match to them, and all you needed was a little push.
Other things take time. There could be a variety of reasons.
I believe that we have to be a frequency match to the things we wish to manifest in our lives. If not, even if we acquire them, they will soon leave us.
There are a variety of factors which will cause us to be a frequency mis-match. Maybe we do not believe we deserve a particular desire. Maybe we do not believe it’s possible. Maybe we are used to being disappointed. Maybe we are so used to putting our own needs last that when something comes to us we push it away. It is important to delve into some of these issues when we are doing our spiritual practice or spending time with our therapist or healer. When we get trapped emotions and limiting beliefs in our energy field that make us a frequency mis-match to things that we want, it is important to address these things in order to be in a proper alignment with our desires.
But after we have done the work, then let it go. Assume you are a magnet to your highest good and if your desire is meant for you, it will show up in its perfect time and in its perfect form. It may not be exactly what you originally wanted. It may not come when you wanted it or how you envisioned it occurring.
For me, some of the sweetest things come to me after I forgot I wanted it!
And sometimes, when it does come, you no longer want it or it does not match your current energy frequency. It is also okay to say no.
I think sometimes the Universe offers me things that I had wanted at some point in time just to remind me that I am a creator and that They are listening. And sometimes I say, “thank you, but my priorities have changed and this no longer matches my current needs.”
Living life as a human is a co-creative process with our souls and our Higher Guidance system, whatever you want to call that. We are balancing our ability to create our desires with our need to surrender the outcome to the Universe for whatever is in our highest good and the highest good of everyone who will be affected by our desires.
There is a saying that says, “whatever is meant for you will find you.”
I sort of agree, but I also believe that sometimes we can push away things that truly are meant for us, for a variety of reasons.
When we combine our desires with our knowledge that we are always growing, always evolving, and always healing, and surrender our need to know everything and to control everything, we can rest in the knowledge that if I am in proper alignment with my highest good, then whatever is meant for me will find me. If something or someone leaves my life, it may hurt and I may grieve, but I surrender my need to hold on to things that have outgrown me or I have outgrown them. I say goodbye and wish them well on their journey.
Today, think about what things you have desired but seem to be taking their time finding you. Think about what may be holding you back from realizing your desires. Change the things about yourself that come up for you. Release wounds of the past.
And then, surrender the outcome. They may come. They may not. But choose to live a life of joy and purpose.
You will be surprised how quickly circumstances change when you surrender the outcome.
